Meta Quest 3, the latest virtual reality headset from Meta, is being used to test the display of Meta Reels videos. In a video shared on Meta’s Instagram channel, Mark Zuckerberg, the company’s CEO, showed how Reels videos will look in virtual reality. Like other virtual reality applications, Reels videos will be displayed in a window that opens on top of the virtual background. However, it is uncertain whether the videos will be shown within Instagram’s Quest app or in a different background created for testing purposes, as Meta has not yet issued a statement on this matter.
Regardless of this uncertainty, the arrival of Reels videos on Quest can be seen as an indication of Meta’s determination to bring its applications and systems closer together. The company announced its Quest 3 headset for $499 last week. Apple also showcased its long-awaited Vision Pro headset earlier this week.
By bringing Reels videos to Quest, Meta once again demonstrates how much it values virtual reality and indirectly sends a message to its competitors. However, Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s CEO, did not hesitate to send a direct challenge to Apple Vision Pro, stating that “Our metaverse vision is entirely social. We aim to enable people to interact in new ways and feel closer.”
